Introduction of Aluminum PCB

Aluminum PCB is a unique metal-core copper-clad laminate with excellent thermal conductivity, electrical insulation and processability. Aluminum PCBs can carry higher currents than conventional FR-4 at the same thickness and wire width.
Aluminum PCBs consist of a copper foil, a thermally conductive insulating layer, and a metal substrate.
Circuit Layer: equivalent to the thickness of copper foil on a regular PCB, ranging from 1 ounce to 10 ounces;
Dielectric layer: a layer of low thermal resistance thermally conductive insulating material, which is the core technology of aluminum-based copper-clad laminates, usually a polymer filled with a special ceramic. It has low thermal resistance, excellent viscoelasticity and resistance to thermal aging, and can withstand thermal stress;
Base layer: Aluminum substrate.

 Aluminum PCB Application

Aluminum substrates are now widely used in the lighting industry, where their excellent thermal performance and stability make them the material of choice. In addition, it plays an important role in many other high power and high frequency applications.
1. audio equipment: input/output amplifiers, balanced amplifiers, audio amplifiers, preamplifiers, power amplifiers, etc. These devices require efficient thermal management and stable electrical performance, and aluminum substrates can provide excellent solutions.
2. power supply equipment: switching regulators, DC/AC converters, etc. These devices operate in high power environments, and the heat dissipation capability of aluminum substrates ensures reliable operation.
3. communication equipment: high-frequency amplifiers, filters, reporting circuits, etc. These devices require extremely high frequency stability and low loss, the excellent electrical properties of aluminum substrates to meet these needs.
4. automation equipment: motor drive, etc. The solid structure and good thermal conductivity of aluminum substrate make it outstanding in automation equipment.
5. automotive: electronic regulator, ignition, power controllers, etc., these key components in automotive applications require materials with high thermal resistance and mechanical strength, aluminum substrates fully meet these requirements.
6. computers: CPU boards, power supply units, etc. Aluminum substrates provide high performance computing with efficient heat dissipation and excellent electrical properties.
7. Power modules: inverters, solid state relays, rectifier bridges, etc. These modules are widely used in industrial and household appliances, and the versatility of aluminum substrates makes them an ideal choice.
8. Lighting equipment: a variety of LED lights, etc. Aluminum substrates not only improve the life of LED lights, but also enhance their light efficiency and color reproduction.

We have extensive experience in manufacturing aluminum PCBs.

KLS Electronics is experienced in aluminum substrate manufacturing and understands that thermal conductivity is one of the key characteristics. We source high performance raw materials from leading suppliers. Our aluminum substrates are manufactured through a tightly controlled production process. We have a separate manufacturing facility for metal core panels, capable of small to large volume production and rapid prototyping on a dedicated line.

Get the Advantages of Aluminum Boards

1、Environmentally friendly: non-toxic and recyclable, RoHS and REACH compliant, no market threshold. This material is manufactured without the use of any harmful chemicals, ensuring its environmental friendliness throughout its life cycle. At the same time, it has efficient recycling and reuse capabilities, reducing resource waste.
2. Excellent heat dissipation performance: several times higher than FR-4 or CEM-3, making it particularly suitable for lighting or automotive applications. This material is able to remain stable in high-temperature environments, effectively dissipate heat, and prevent electronic components from overheating, thereby extending equipment life and improving safety. Especially in the lighting and automotive fields, its excellent heat dissipation performance can significantly improve product reliability and performance.
3. Higher durability: Low Z-axis expansion, stronger than ceramic or glass fiber substrates, and excellent mechanical properties. This material exhibits extremely low dimensional changes under different temperature and humidity conditions, ensuring its stability in a variety of environments. In addition, its mechanical strength far exceeds that of traditional ceramic or glass fiber substrates, allowing it to withstand greater physical stress and not easily rupture or deform, providing a longer service life for electronic devices.

FAQ

Q1:How does aluminum substrate achieve heat dissipation? Components are mounted on the circuit layer, and the heat generated is rapidly conducted to the metal substrate layer through the insulating layer, and then radiated out through the metal substrate layer, thus realizing heat dissipation.

Q2: How do I select an aluminum substrate? Thermal conductivity (W/mK) is the key indicator, usually 1.0, 1.5, 2.0, 3.0, etc. 2.0 is considered to have higher thermal conductivity and is suitable for most products that require efficient heat dissipation, but the higher the thermal conductivity, the more expensive the price.

Q3: How long can aluminum substrate be stored? Aluminum substrates should be stored in a dark and dry environment. Because they are prone to yellowing from moisture, they should be used within 48 hours once removed from the vacuum package.
